Session #1
Learn to taste like a Master of Wine – A study in Chardonnay – 2.0
Back in 2021, Michelle Cherutti-Kowal took us through a mind-probing journey of how to taste wine in an intellectual, yet approachable way virtually, from her home in the U.K. Despite a few logistical challenges, her session was a huge success, so much so that we feel a live session is necessary in 2023! Michelle sits on the Educational Committee at the Master of Wine Institute and reminds us how everything we experience “in the glass” is the secret to the story of any wine. Join us as she takes us through the MW assessment process while tasting 8 Chardonnay’s blind from within the 130 wines of the i4C. Attendees will challenge their blind tasting skills and then can expect to learn more when Michelle calls up each winemaker for a one-on-one chat about their Chardonnay.
Session #2
Blend like a Winemaker
School of Cool sneaks you off to the barrel cellar with a glass and a “thief”. Get a peek behind the winemaking curtain as four winemakers present unfinished Chardonnays that illustrate some of the process choices and options that go into the final “blend” of a bottle of 100% VQA Chardonnay. Join Ontario winemaker Rob Power as he leads this hands-on blending workshop featuring Yvonne Irvine of Queenston Mile, Levi de Loryn of Jackson Triggs, Jessica Otting of Tawse Winery and Casey Kulczyk of Westcott Vineyards.
Session #3
Filling in the “Blancs”
Bubbles are on the rise and it seems like the world wants more. Many say that traditional method sparkling made from Chardonnay is the most elegant and has the most longevity. Join Michelle Cherutti-Kowal as she digs deep into the world of lees, base wine choices, reserve wines and the differences in Vintage and Non-Vintage sparkling winemaking.
Tickets are non-refundable.
