Founded in 1984 in Puligny Montrachet, Chartron & Trébuchet acquired rapidly a reputation of excellence. It is first a friendship story, when Jean René Chartron, already owner of an estate in Puligny and Louis Trébuchet, a negociant of Beaune, associated their strengths, energy and savoir-faire to value the best terroirs of Burgundy. Today owned by the Helfrich family who pursues the heritage of the great founders.

Chartron & Trébuchet head winemaker Serge Debucy says : “ I try to have a modern vision of the winemaking and ageing work but at the same time I care and respect the legacy and spirit of the great name Chartron and Trébuchet. In the cellar, we work only with ripe and healthy grapes, sourced from the plots we know very well. We vinify and age our wines seeking the best maturity and balance possible, with great patience as it is always a matter of precision like a watchmaker. Our aim is not to not to reinvent Burgundy but to put forward its part of dream.”

Why We're Cool

Chartron & Trébuchet Pouilly Fuisse 2021
Located in the south of the Maconnais, the vineyards of Pouilly-Fuissé occupy the slopes and the base of the Rocks of Solutré and Vergisson. They span over four villages: Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé, Vergisson and Chaintré.
The altitude of Pouilly Fuissé is approximately 250 meters and its surface is 750 hectares. The latitude and longitude of Fuissé are 46.281 degrees North and 4.742 degrees East.
Pouilly-Fuissé AOP is a dry white wine made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. It is usually pale and refreshing, with a delicate finish yet full of vivacity. Chardonnay prefers calcareous soil with a higher proportion of clay. This typical terroir soil gives all the finesse and elegance to the wine as well as its specific aromas and flavours. The amount of clay in the soil is a lead contributor to the full mouthfeel of the great Burgundian dry whites, giving excellent dry white wines.
Chartron & Trébuchet features a winemaking technique that respects the appellation. In order to keep their minerality and freshness, the alcoholic fermentation takes place at 16°C, in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The ageing on fine lees is carried out both in 225 liters French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for 8 to 10 months.

Chartron & Trébuchet Pouilly Fuissé has an elegant nose with mineral (flint) and citrus (lemon, grapefruit) notes. The aromatic finesse finds its complexity with notes of roasted peanuts. The palate is rich and tense with a minerality that dominates the finish.
Chartron & Trébuchet Pouilly Fuisse has been sold on the west coast of Canada for over a decade and with great success.

Chartron & Trébuchet Chablis 2022
The Chablis region dedicated to Chardonnay covers around 20 villages and has been called “the Golden Gateway to the Bourgogne Region”. Surrounded by vineyards, the international reputation makes the village of Chablis a global icon for white wine lovers. With most of its revenue coming from winegrowing, Chablis is one of the most picturesque and typical winegrowing village Burgundy’s.
The altitude of Chablis vineyards are between 150 to 310 meters above sea level and its surface is 3200 hectares. The latitude and longitude of Chablis are 47.815 degrees North and 3.798 degrees East.
Chablis’ bright mineral character is thanks to its location and soil. The production region lies at the northernmost tip of Burgundy, just under 100 miles south from Champagne. The weather is colder and damper than the more southerly parts of Burgundy, which results in wines that have more tart fruit than sweet, and more zest on the palate. The Chablis region is a limestone plateau cut by valleys and lies on a stratum dating from the Kimmeridgian (155 millions years BC) with alternating marl and limestone and tiny deposits of oysters in the rock called Exogyra Virgula, reminiscent of the warm and shallow sea which then covered Burgundy. Chablis’ subsoil is rich and porous, allowing deep rooting of the vines and even water intake.
With the traditional winemaking, the grapes are pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery in pneumatic presses. Settling, cold storing for 48h. Fermentation in stainless steel vats thermo-regulated at 8°C at the beginning than 16°C to preserve at the best the complex and deep aromas of the chardonnay. Ageing in stainless steel vats on total lies between 8 to 10 months with regular stirring to gain depth and complexity.
Chartron & Trébuchet Chablis is a pleasant dry white, with palate-popping citrus fruit notes, white peaches, white flowers, seashells and hay. It is an unoaked Chardonnay produced in a cool climate area, world-wide famous for its bright acidity called ‘tension by the locals’ and great minerality. Great with seafood, oysters or just for itself.
